Kendrick Lamar teases Vince Staples collaboration in new Black Panther trailer

Soundtrack is available Feb. 9

Kendrick Lamar teased the second track off the upcoming Black Panther album in a new trailer, and it’s one of the more exciting collaborations yet.

The track that plays in the trailer doesn’t have a name, nor has it been officially announced, but around the 55-second mark, we hear the unmistakeable sound of award-nominated rapper Vince Staples’ voice. Lamar and Staples previously worked together on “Yeah Right,” a song off Staples’ most recent album, Big Fish Theory.

If Staples and Lamar’s track is a part of the Black Panther soundtrack, it marks Lamar’s second contribution. Although Lamar previously confirmed that he was working on the soundtrack, his involvement wasn’t clear until very recently. Lamar is set to produce the soundtrack and, based on the first two songs released, lay down some verses on a couple of tracks. Prior to the new song with Staples, Lamar and R&B artist Sza released a song, which is also off the soundtrack.

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, director Ryan Coogler and actor Chadwick Boseman told The Los Angeles Times that Lamar’s music, especially his most recent album, DAMN, was a big inspiration for the movie. A trailer played during Marvel’s Hall H conference used Lamar’s “DNA” as a background song.

Those who want to pre-order the Black Panther soundtrack can now do so. The soundtrack will be available as of Feb. 9.

Black Panther will be released in theaters on Feb. 16.
