Sea of Thieves is getting a spooky seasonal event this Halloween

Ahh!! A pirate ghost!!

Sea of Thieves has always had a pretty spooky locale for players to explore in the Ferry of the Damned, the place players go when we die before we come back to life for more pirate action. That spectral ship, which flies over an ocean of soul and is manned by a sour ferryman, is going to feature heavily in Sea of Thieves’ next Bilge Rat Adventure, Festival of the Damned.

Bilge Rat Adventures are weekly events that add new objectives and goals to the world that give Doubloons, which can be traded in for time-limited cosmetics. This time, it looks like players can unlock an assortment of spooky face paints, along with a menacing lantern.

Sea of Thieves is moving toward having more and richer lore in its game, and this Bilge Rat Adventure might be more than just a way to get some neat cosmetic additions for your pirate — we might find out more about the weird world that the Sea of Thieves exists in, complete with cloaking fog and time warping shenanigans. The Ferryman, after all, is an extremely suspicious figure who brings us back to life and allows us to sacrifice his ships to him. It’ll be interesting to see if we get any face time with this mysterious character.

Festival of the Damned is set to begin on Oct. 31, with no set end date as of yet.

The next level of puzzles.
