Bubsy is back, again, in a new game from the Bit.Trip developers

Bubsy: Paws on Fire is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC

It’s been one year since the release of Bubsy the Bobcat’s last game, Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, so apparently we’re due for a new one. Next year, we’ll get an all-new Bubsy — Bubsy: Paws on Fire, which is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.

Bubsy’s next game is being developed by Choice Provisions, the studio behind the Bit.Trip series and space survival game Tharsis. Choice Provisions’ take on Bubsy will include four playable characters (Bubsy, The Woolie, Arnold and Virgil Reality), more than 100 levels, “a unique combo system” and an in-game shop with cosmetic items, letting you outfit Bubsy in something other than a T-shirt.

On its website, Choice Provisions describes Bubsy: Paws on Fire as “an auto-runner at its core, but there’s a lot more to it than that.” In an official announcement, the developer is refreshingly honest about its opportunity to work on the Bubsy intellectual property:

After some productive meetings and even more productive face scratches we agreed to work with Bubsy on creating an auto-runner worthy of his stature. And when that was done we scrapped it and made a good game instead.

Bubsy: Paws on Fire is slated for release sometime during the first quarter of 2019.
