Peter Jackson’s Mortal Engines gets official trailer at New York Comic Con

Our first real look at Jackson’s next movie

Following a teaser trailer late last year, we finally have a longer trailer for Mortal Engines, based on Philip Reeve’s quartet of sci-fi novels of the same name.

Mortal Engines mounts the return of Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings franchise), as well as co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Jackson’s trusted visual effects supervisor Christian Rivers in the director’s chair. Jackson was on hand at New York Comic Con to introduce the trailer, which can be seen above.

Polygon previously summed up Mortal Engines in our in-depth explainer as:

It takes place in a post-apocalyptic Europe in an area known as The Great Hunting Ground, which encompasses most of the European and part of the Asian continents. Sometime in the past, human civilization was fundamentally changed by an event known as the Sixty Minute War, implied to be a frenzy of nuclear exchange between America and China.

Since then, a civilization has oriented itself around “traction cities,” the core sci-fi concept of the movie, and the Great Hunting Ground is the largest concentration of them.

Mortal Engines will be released on Dec. 14.
