Destiny 2’s Black Armory expansion details begin to surface

Are these leaks possibly true? Let’s talk about it

Destiny 2: Black Armory — the first of three expansions included in the game’s Annual Pass — is set to be released in early December. But details from Black Armory have already started to leak onto Destiny’s subreddit and beyond. While it’s quickly being pulled from their original sources, the information inside sounds very interesting to longtime Destiny fans.

The leaks suggest that the Last Word hand cannon, along with the Icebreaker sniper rifle, will be returning to Destiny 2 with the new expansion. This comes after rumors that Thunderlord — an exotic machine gun from Destiny — will return in either Black Armory or the Festival of the Lost Halloween event.

The rumors also suggest that there will be a new “bubble location” set in the EDZ. The location of the raid lair — which Bungie has promised players in the upcoming roadmap — seems to be under some contention among the leakers. Some suggest that’ll it’ll be located on Titan, while others think it will be located in the EDZ alongside the bubble. Either way, the Hive looks to be the focus, which makes a great deal of sense, considering the game’s current story.

Finally, there are rumors that Black Armory will introduce a new weapon rarity: “Black,” to the surprise of no one. However, none of the leakers seem to have any idea what will be different or special about these new guns. There will also be a new activity in the patrol zone called “Forges of Chain,” although the enemy type that players will face still seems to be up in the air.

Unfortunately, many of the more credible posts have been removed from the subreddit for one reason or another. Destiny YouTuber xHOUNDISHx’s video above does a nice job cataloguing these posts and includes comments from infamous Destiny leaker “AnonTheNine,” who leaked the original details about Thunderlord’s potentially early return. They also correctly predicted many of the obscure changes in Destiny 2: Forsaken.

These leaks do seem fairly believable, although all the details here are easy to guess. For example, Bungie alluded to a possible Black weapon type in a raid-fire interview with Game Informer. When asked about a potential rarity past Exotic in a Q&A that we attended before Forsaken, Bungie stated that it would address that question directly in the coming months. Suggesting that a new Black weapon type, surpassing Exotic, will be coming is simply putting two and two together.

As far as returning weapons are concerned, all three of those Exotics — Thunderlord, Icebreaker and Last Word — are in very popular demand with players. Assuming Bungie cares about that sort of thing, the return of these Exotics makes a lot of sense, and are certainly some of the first weapons a fake leaker would name to sound believable.

But just because a leak is easy to guess doesn’t mean it isn’t true. AnonTheNine has weighed in pretty regularly on these Black Armory leaks, and while much of their Reddit history has been deleted, they have a very good reputation in the Destiny community. Still, while all of these leaks look and sound pretty good, we wouldn’t recommend counting on any of them prior to official announcement.

We’ll likely start hearing about Black Armory and the content within around the middle of November, a few weeks prior to the expansion’s supposed release date.

We’ve reached out to Bungie about the details in the apparent leaks and will update upon receiving comment.
