Disney and Pixar Animation Studios dropped the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 4 this morning — but don’t go into it expecting to learn too much about the next entry in the beloved franchise. Instead, consider this more of a reunion for viewers and their favorite toys, with Woody, Buzz, Jessie and several others kicking off the teaser. All smiles and laughs.
It’s not until the very end of the teaser that Toy Story 4’s plot begins to reveal itself. The description for the video provides more helpful details, too; that fork at the very end, that’s freaking out because it feels misrepresented among the toys? That anxiety is going to be the problem that Woody and the crew are looking to solve.
This is how Disney describes the plot:
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
“The world of Toy Story is built upon the idea that everything in the world has a purpose,” Cooley says in the news release. “A toy’s purpose is to be there for its child. But what about toys that are made out of other objects? Forky is a toy that Bonnie made out of a disposable spork, so he’s facing a crisis. He wants to fulfill his purpose as a spork, but now has a new toy purpose thrust upon him.”
Forky is voiced by Tony Hale (Arrested Development, Veep), while director Josh Cooley is making his feature film debut at the helm.
The teaser for Toy Story 4 will be attached to the new Wreck-It Ralph movie, Ralph Breaks the Internet, out Nov. 21. Toy Story 4 arrives in theaters June 21, 2019.
