Bungie reveals Destiny 2: Black Armory, the game’s first mini-expansion

The Annual Pass’ first offering will become available next week

Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

In a video released this morning, Bungie revealed the Black Armory expansion coming to Destiny 2 next week. Players who opt into the $35 annual pass will be able to earn new exotics and increase their power level with Black Armory. The mini-expansion centers around Ada-1, the vendor of the Black Armory who will send players on new quests to re-ignite the weapon forges lost during the Golden Age.

Players will accomplish this task partially through the Lost Forges activity, a new, match-made experience for players in Destiny 2. Up to three players will be able to group up together and defend the Forges from an onslaught of enemies.

After collecting materials in the world, players will be able to launch into a the activity to go after one of the powerful new weapons. But once he parts have all been placed in the Forge, enemies will begin attacking from all sides. Players will need to work together to fend off enemies as they rush the half-baked guns. For completing runs of Lost Forges, players will earn a new weapon from the infamous Black Armory.

From the Black Armory, players will be able to earn new weapons that come with new mods that can be applied to all of Forsaken’s weapons as well. Heavy machine guns are also making a return in this expansion, joining the recently added Thunderlord.

Black Armory also comes with a new raid called Scourge of the Past. This new experience will take players into the abandoned areas of the Last City. Not much else is known about Scourge of the Past, but players should likely expect a shorter experience than the Last Wish raid released a few months ago.

Black Armory will be released on Dec. 4 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. Season of the Forge hit Destiny 2 live servers today, and is free for all players.
