Netflix has canceled Daredevil after three seasons

Another Marvel Netflix co-production has come to an end as the streaming giant announced on Thursday night that it has canceled Daredevil, the first of the company’s collaborations with Marvel Entertainment, after three seasons.

This news comes just two months after the release of Daredevil’s positively received third season. Daredevil is the latest in a streak of cancellations by Netflix of Marvel shows. In October, both Luke Cage and Iron Fist were canceled after just two seasons. This is part of a larger trend of Netflix parting ways with shows produced by other companies that have their own streaming sites, or have announced plans to debut their own streaming sites in the future, such as American Vandal, which was a CBS Studios production. The Walt Disney Company, Marvel Entertainment’s corporate parent, has its own streaming service, Disney+, on the way next year.

In a statement from Netflix, the company said, “while the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”

For now, Netflix announced in April 2018 that it would be renewing Jessica Jones for a third season. In December of 2017, Punisher was also renewed for a second season. The two shows are the only remaining Netflix/Marvel productions with announced future seasons.
