Last night’s Maxis Monthly — a dedicated livestream for all new Sims content across the various PC and mobile titles — revealed that a first-person camera mode will be coming to all Sims 4 players with the next patch update.
What started out as a joke feature by one producer turned into an actual development side project. Pressing Shift + Tab will switch the camera into first person mode, viewing the Sim world from the eyes of your Sim. Watch TV as a Sim! Eat popcorn as a Sim! Mop the floors as a Sim! Pet your Sim’s pets as a Sim!
The possibilities are endless.
On the stream, Sims global community manager known as SimGuru Kate and Maxis build engineer Steve Lansing mentioned that builders (those in the Sims community dedicated to building houses and lots) will be able to use the first person camera to give house tours, while those who enjoy making machinimas and storytelling with their Sims will be able to utilize the new angles that this camera offers. Simmers who create and play in-game challenges now have a totally new factor to incorporate. And others just want to immerse themselves in the gorgeous world of the Sims and see what it’s like to walk the streets of the new Del Sol Valley.
Of course, there are some Simmers who immediately jumped to the more...risqué ideas and really want to see what happens when Sims WooHoo (and how this will factor into infamous sex mod, Wicked Whims).
Some players are concerned about motion sickness due to the mode’s shaky camera, but the mode itself is entirely optional and won’t affect gameplay if not enabled.
The patch, which also includes a new Style Influencer career and expanded terrain modifications tools, will be out Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. EST, available to all Sims 4 players regardless of expansion pack.
The Sims 4: Get Famous will be out Nov. 16.
