Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is getting a big, free update called Operation Absolute Zero. Bundled with new content for Zombies and multiplayer are a few extra items for Blackout, the game’s battle royale mode. Absolute Zero arrives first for PlayStation 4 on Dec. 11.
The biggest addition is a yacht floating in the map’s northwest corner. Based on Hijacked, a multiplayer map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, it’s a fairly large, multilevel space with a mix of outdoor and indoor environments. Expect a bunch of loot, as well as multiple rafts to allow players to get back to the mainland. Anyone leaving before the party is over, however, will be easy pickings with a scoped weapon. You can see a glimpse of the area in a new trailer embedded above.
Another addition is Blackout’s newest vehicle, a small, two-person armored car with a turret-mounted machine gun called the ARAV. We haven’t gotten a real good look at it yet, but it seems to be something like a cross between a two-seater dune buggy and the Warthog from Halo. Developer Treyarch shows players using the turret to take out a helicopter.
Additionally, there have been some changes to the game’s graphics. From the official website:
Players will immediately notice the map’s new visual updates as soon as they jump out of the helicopter, from seasonal changes in foliage and softer winter lighting, to new smoke trails to better indicate where everyone is dropping. Subtle environmental improvements are also coming to Nuketown Island, Hydro Dam, and Factory.
Players will also be able to use a new specialist, named Zero, once they’ve unlocked her in the traditional Call of Duty multiplayer section of the game. Operation Absolute Zero also makes a new set of gladiator skins available, but players will first need to find the appropriate missions in the wild during a live session of Blackout before getting the opportunity to unlock them.
If you’re confused as to why there’s gladiators in the game, that’s because they feature prominently in the Zombies mode.
