Live-action Star Wars show The Mandalorian is rounding out its cast with some surprising choices.

Legendary director and actor Werner Herzog, known for Fitzcarraldo and Grizzly Man, is joining The Mandalorian, along with Emily Swallow (The Mentalist), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Omid Abtahi (Mockingjay Pt. 2) and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) in undisclosed roles.

Previously, the Jon Favreau-led series added Game of Thrones’ Pedro Pascal as the titular Mandalorian, and Gina Carano (Deadpool) and Nick Nolte (Affliction) in unspecified roles.

“We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to,” Favreau said in a statement.

The show will take place after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi and before the rise of the First Order. It follows a lone gunfighter — presumably the Mandalorian — as he travels the outer reaches of the galaxy.

The Mandalorian is currently in production. No premiere date has been set, but the show will stream on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney Plus.
