Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the side scrolling action game from former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi, will no longer support Mac or Linux. The news comes shortly after the cancellation of the version for PlayStation Vita, a delay into 2019, and the addition of resources from Shantae series developers WayForward.
The news broke in a public post made by Igarashi himself today on Kickstarter.
“Bloodstained will no longer be supported on Mac and Linux,” he wrote. “We have made this tough decision due to challenges of supporting middleware and online feature support and making sure we deliver on the rest of the scope for the game. We will be offering backers who planned to play the game on Mac and Linux the option to change the platform of their order.”
The post also included information on how to contact the team to make your request. The team remains on track to produce versions for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
The effort to create Bloodstained began in 2015 with a Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $5.5 million from nearly 65,000 backers. It stands at number 16 in the all-time top earners on Kickstarter, above Dark Souls: The Board Game and below The Veronica Mars Movie Project. The original delivery date was March 2017, but has since been pushed back until some time next year.
The failure by Bloodstained and other high-profile video game projects to meet self-imposed deadlines has led to a precipitous decline in video game funding on Kickstarter. Total funding fell from $42.5 million in 2015 to roughly $17 million for each of the last two years.
