Celeste will add ‘farewell levels’ in the new year

A thank-you to more than 500,000 players

Matt Thorson and Noel Berry

Celeste, one of our 10 best games for 2018, will get new “very hard” levels added to the game shortly after the new year.

Creator Matt Thorson earlier last week said the new content was coming, in a tweet celebrating the game’s sales and thanking everyone who made it a hit. “We’re working on some farewell Celeste levels,” he said. Expect them in “early 2019.”

We’ve been enamored with this platformer, one of the best designs in a genre that depends on great level design, since its launch nearly a year ago. Celeste is getting a physical release soon, courtesy of Limited Run Games, which is also throwing in the game’s soundtrack on cassette and other special-edition flair.

Celeste is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. The collector’s edition, which is limited to 2,500 copies, goes on sale for Switch and PS4 beginning Jan. 1.
