Mob Psycho 100 season 2 will have a special preview in theaters

New, comments

Fans who make it to the screenings will be able to check out the new season two days early

The second season of Mob Psycho 100, the popular series from the creator of One-Punch Man, will debut in theaters, as part of a new partnership between Crunchyroll and Fathom Events, the companies announced on Wednesday morning.

The show follows an ordinary-seeming boy nicknamed Mob — derived from a joke about how he seems so ordinary, he may as well be a background character — who actually has strong telekinetic powers. The series’ first season debuted in 2016 to rapturous acclaim from fans, and is often cited as one of the best anime of the last several years. It’s based off of a web comic by the author of One-Punch Man, who is simply known as ONE. Mob Psycho 100 is animated by the Japanese studio Bones, the same studio behind the extremely popular My Hero Academia.

The second season’s premiere will hit theaters on Jan. 5, two days before it’s set to debut on Crunchyroll as part of the company’s simulcast agreement. The theatrical screenings will also feature a shortened recap of the show’s first season, which is currently live on Crunchyroll. The rest of the episodes in season two will continue to air on Crunchyroll just after it does in Japan.

Crunchyroll Movie Nights, a new partnership between Crunchyroll and Fathom Events, is behind the theatrical screening. The event series will host screenings of anime content throughout 2019. Tickets for the event will go on sale to Crunchyroll subscribers today, Dec. 5, and will be available to everyone this Friday, Dec. 7.
