The December drop of NES games for Nintendo Switch Online members is due next week, and it’s a trio of classics. Nintendo announced that it will add Ninja Gaiden, Wario’s Woods and Adventures of Lolo to the Nintendo Entertainment System application on Dec. 12.
An update headed by Ninja Gaiden is certainly impressive. The action game remains one of the most hardcore of the 8-bit era, helping pioneer the term “Nintendo Hard.” If that kind of thing is up your alley — dying, dying and dying again — then Ninja Gaiden is exactly your thing.
Wario’s Woods is geared toward puzzle fans; think Dr. Mario, except with Wario and little monsters instead of Mario M.D. and little viruses. It’s also one of the few games where players control Toad, who carries around the falling puzzle pieces to line them up or even kick them over to the other side of the board.
Adventures of Lolo is a more obscure title, and another puzzle game that also allows players to shoot up enemies. Satoru Iwata produced it during his time at HAL Laboratory.
Nintendo Switch Online costs $19.99 annually and grants access to not only this library of NES games, but also online multiplayer and functionality for most games on the console.
