In arguably the most exciting superhero trailer news of the day, the first trailer for Disney Channel’s live-action rendition of Kim Possible dropped.
Following in Disney’s long line of live-action remakes of its animated properties, this direct-to-TV movie is a reimagining of the popular animated television show, which aired on Disney Channel from 2002 to 2007. It starred crime-fighting teenager Kim Possible and her best friend Ron Stoppable (and Ron’s naked mole rat, Rufus) as they repeatedly saved the world from a menagerie of quirky villains, including the nefarious Dr. Drakken and his right-hand woman, Shego.
Kim Possible was highly praised for being centered around an intelligent and capable heroine, and was popular among both male and female audiences. Naturally, the nostalgia factor is high.
This first trailer begins with Kim narrating just how she got into the business of world-saving, before her iconic beeper goes off. (“Call me, beep me” was both a key part of the theme song and perhaps the most enduring catchphrase Kim Possible ever gave us.)
The live-action version of Kim Possible was confirmed in February 2018. Newcomer Sadie Stanley and Sean Giambrone (The Goldbergs) will star as Kim and Ron, respectively; they were cast in April. The original voice of Kim Possible, Christy Carlson Romano, is also joining the film, though her role is unspecified.
Kim Possible premieres on the Disney Channel on Feb. 15, 2019.
