Blizzard is bringing back Overwatch’s Lunar New Year seasonal event next week, the studio announced on Twitter. The second annual campaign will begin Thursday, Feb. 8.
2018 is the Year of the Dog, according to the Chinese zodiac. It’s possible that this year’s Lunar New Year event, much like last year’s, will reference the animal in an exclusive gameplay mode. Overwatch’s inaugural event in 2017, the Year of the Rooster, brought us Capture the Rooster. The team battle, set on Lijiang Tower, prominently featured a rooster on its main objective, the flag.
Blizzard isn’t saying whether that limited-time mode is returning for the Year of the Dog, however. But we can also hope that Overwatch’s seasonal skins will at least be back in loot boxes during the events. Last year saw several characters receive looks inspired by the classic tale Journey to the West, alongside skins based around the Lunar New Year event in general.
Whatever happens, the event is always a big celebration for Mei fans. Stay tuned until Feb. 8 to see what the Lunar New Year will bring to Overwatch players.
Wishing you prosperity in the Year of the Dog!
