Warner Bros.’ movie based on the classic video game Rampage will pit Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson against a trio of genetically modified monsters when it hits movie theaters this April. A new trailer for Rampage offers a better look at those big beasts, including the friendly gorilla George, and a not-so-friendly mutated flying(?!) wolf and giant lizard.
As the new, full-length trailer for Rampage reveals, Johnson plays ripped primatologist Davis Okoye, who befriends an “extraordinarily intelligent” silverback gorilla. But things go horribly wrong when his primate pal is the unwitting victim of a genetic experiment.
Johnson’s character has to contend with the Department of Homeland Security and a trigger-happy military force when George goes on a rampage — and two other creatures affected by the same experiment start ripping up downtown Chicago. We also get a look at some of the nefarious geneticists behind “Project Rampage,” the catalyst for all these giant monsters, and lots of fun, fiery destruction. The Rock also drops a goofy one-liner about every 15 seconds, showing that Rampage is going for action and laughs.
Joining Johnson in Rampage are Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacey, Joe Manganiello and and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Rampage was directed by Brad Peyton, who previously worked with The Rock on San Andreas and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Peyton is also attached to direct a movie based on Avalanche Studios’ Just Cause games.
Rampage will light up theaters on April 20.
