The second season of Fortnite: Battle Royale is almost done, and that means season three is almost here. With the newest season right around the corner, Epic has finally revealed the theme for season three’s Battle Pass: space.
That’s right, the newest Battle Pass will take players to the farthest reaches of the universe with space-themed cosmetics. Just like last season’s Battle Pass, the biggest rewards will come to those who play the most, but anyone who buys the pass will instantly be granted a few goodies. The only thing revealed so far is the Mission Specialist Outfit, which lets you run around the map in a space suit.
While there’s no official word on when exactly season three starts, it seems likely that it could start as soon as Feb. 21, the day after season two comes to an end. Once the season begins, all Fortnite: Battle Royale players will be able to purchase the Battle Pass from the in-game store.
In case you don’t quite know what the the Fortnite Battle Pass is, and what it unlocks, we’re here with a few helpful answers.
What exactly is the Battle Pass?
Fortnite: Battle Royale’s Battle Pass is a way to unlock some of the game’s best cosmetics, such as character outfits, gliders, pickaxes and emotes. Players who want to take advantage of the season three Battle Pass will have to buy it for 950 of Epic’s V-Bucks, or about $10.00.
While you get a few goodies right out of the gate with the Battle Pass, the majority of its rewards are given for reaching new tiers — basically leveling the pass up — which can be done through normal play. The season three pass has 100 tiers, 30 more than in season two, and should take players between 75 and 150 hours to complete. This season’s pass also adds weekly challenges, which encourage people to play a little differently for a few bonus Battle Pass experience points.
That seems like a long time, can I just buy tier upgrades?
Yes, Epic sells tier upgrades for 150 V-Bucks, but that means a fully upgraded pass will set you back almost $150.00, if you want everything without playing the game. Epic is also trying something new for season three by selling a version of the pass that comes with the first 25 tiers already upgraded, which will be on sale for 2,800 V-Bucks.
Will any of this make me better at the game?
Nope. Just like all the other Battle Passes, everything included for season three is strictly cosmetic and won’t have any impact on gameplay. So, if you want to get better at the game, you’ll have to do it the old fashion way.
I don’t want to buy any of this, will I still get any space-themed rewards?
You will, probably. For the season two, players were able to get a couple of emotes, a glider and banners. So, it seems like Epic will give everyone who plays the game a few space-themed rewards, just not quite as much as the people willing to shell out some cash for the Battle Pass.
Update: Fortnite: Battle Royale season 3 is now live. Epic Games released a brief trailer of the new season’s Battle Pass, showing off the game’s latest cosmetics. You can watch the Fortnite: Battle Royale season 3 Battle Pass trailer below.
