A new live-action trailer for Shinsuke Sato’s Bleach adaptation gives us a little glimpse into Ichigo Kurosaki’s encounter with a terrifying dead and nefarious soul called a Hollow.
The trailer, seen above, is only 30 seconds, but stars Bleach’s main character, Ichigo, fighting a Hollow that appears to be taken from the very beginning of Ichigo’s story. Bleach tells the tale of Ichigo’s dead soul fighting journey as a Soul Reaper. Soul Reapers are responsible for ensuring the trapped, angry souls of dead people are ushered away from the main world where living humans reside to an afterlife called the Soul Society.
The trailer doesn’t give too much away, but it does give us a better look at Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper who transfers her powers to Ichigo when she’s injured during a battle with the Hollow. Rukia realizes afterwards that she’ll have to recover her strength following the transferring, and takes on the role of Ichigo’s guide in Soul Reaping.
Bleach will be released by Warner Bros. in Japan on July 20. There are no plans to bring it to North America yet, but considering how popular and beloved the original manga and anime series are, don’t give up hope.
