Nintendo has removed a section on its website that allowed players to review Switch games like Splatoon 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, just five days after Reddit users first noticed the capability.
“Customer reviews have been taken offline as we evaluate this feature and its functionality,” a post on the Nintendo site reads. “We currently have no estimated date on when an update will be provided. We appreciate the positive response and thank the reviewers who provided such thoughtful commentary on the games.”
While some Nintendo fans are concerned about the feature’s future, others suggest that the company may just be working out some kinks.
“Evaluating the feature does not mean that they’re discontinuing it,” one person noted on Reddit. “It could mean anything ranging from that to it not working as intended and them taking it offline so they can fix it without causing confusion and/or corrupt data.”
To say that Nintendo’s review page for its Switch games was detailed would be an understatement. People were asked to tag games using phrases like “great sound” and “intuitive controls,” describe what type of gamer they identify as and provide detailed comments, along with an overall rating.
Update: A Nintendo of America representative told Polygon that the publisher is evaluating “the future of the ratings functionality” on its website, calling the initial system a “trial” feature. The full statement can be read below:
Nintendo.com recently offered a trial customer review feature to let users share feedback about Nintendo Switch games on our website. The response has been positive, and Nintendo appreciates the time and effort that reviewers put into their thoughtful commentary on the games. Nintendo has removed this feature as we evaluate the future of the ratings functionality on Nintendo.com. We have no estimate on when an update will be provided on the status of this initiative, but we appreciate the enthusiasm shown for the trial.
