Westworld returns in April: watch the Super Bowl trailer

Trust no one.

Westworld fans were treated to a trailer for the show’s upcoming second season tonight during Super Bowl 52.

The commercial marks the first time in 20 years that HBO has taken out an ad during football’s biggest night. Entertainment Weekly reports that series co-creator Jonathan Nolan will direct the trailer, and perhaps even more interestingly, is being touted as containing exclusive footage. This means that some of the shots that appear won’t actually make it into the second season.

HBO has shown footage from the show’s upcoming season before, but only to a few lucky fans. In July, the network treated fans at San Diego Comic-Con to a quick, 30-second clip that included raw footage. It was unclear at the time how much of that footage would be included in the show’s second season.

HBO tonight also confirmed the premiere date: Westworld season two will debut April 22nd.
