Do you think of Yuri on Ice when you think of figure skating? You’re not alone.
The Japanese figure skating team performing at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games sent out a pair of skaters to a routine featuring the soundtrack from popular anime series about competitive figure skating. The routine can be seen in the video above.
The routine was performed by Miu Suzaki and Ryuichi Kihara, who have been dancing together since 2015. The skating duo caught the internet’s attention last year as well when they performed a routine set to Daniel Pemberton’s “Out of the Garage” from the soundtrack to 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Both Suzaki and Kihara have received a number of accolades in the past for their skating abilities, both as single skaters and as part of a team, but have never won Olympic medals. Team skating, however, is a relatively new Olympic event. It first debuted in Sochi four years ago, according to SB Nation.
Their performance was celebrated by Yuri on Ice fans and cosplayers, who thanked the duo for their “magical performance,” which helped to kick off the 2018 Olympics.
