Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, the upcoming role-playing game based on the beloved media franchise, will arrive on iOS and Android later this spring. In the lead-up to its release, developer Jam City has released our first detailed look at what to expect from the first Harry Potter game to let players live out their own Hogwarts careers.
The teaser above takes fans through the paces of average life at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, from the all-important, house-defining Sorting Hat ceremony — during which players will have more say over where they end up than the average Hogwarts student — to learning how to use that wand for more than just potion-crafting.
Like any good Hogwarts student, players will be able to get up to all kinds of dangerous adventures. They’ll learn spells in class that they can then recreate to unlock hidden secrets; there are also plenty of other students to befriend through myriad dialogue options. Familiar professors also return, including the (spoiler warning for one of the most popular series of all time, I guess?) dearly departed Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape. We also get to see some magic fights between students, with players seemingly given full control over combat.
As this game is set before Harry Potter’s time at Hogwarts, there’s no threat of the Boy Who Lived or Lord Voldemort casting a pall over the proceedings. Hogwarts Mystery, we’re assured, is very much about living out our own adventures for the first time.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is now open for pre-registration on Google Play ahead of its full release. Pre-registering for the game will guarantee that Google Play customers are alerted to when Hogwarts Mystery is available to download.
