Watch 12 minutes of Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s making-of documentary

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was a film that divided a fanbase.

Soon those fans will get a feature-length deep dive on how it was made — an intriguing proposition no matter what your opinion — when it hits home release digitally on Mar. 13 and DVD and Blu-ray on Mar. 27.

The Director and the Jedi, directed by Anthony Wonke, is a documentary about Rian Johnson and the making of The Last Jedi, and it’s almost as long as the film it’s documenting.

In The Director and the Jedi, Johnson says that if he was a fan, and not the director, “The only thing I would really want [from The Last Jedi] is a good movie that delights me in ways I didn’t expect.”

He goes on to mention an Russian Twitter bot campaign begging him not to kill General Hux. Later footage revealed that all of the scenes between Luke and Rey on Skellig Michael, the real world island that stood in for Luke’s hideaway on Ahch-To, had to be filmed in a mere two days.
