Fortnite’s latest patch is adding a brand-new gun

The new heavy shotgun is sure to be a terror

Epic Games

Fortnite’s latest patch, v3.3.1, is adding the new heavy shotgun to Battle Royale, Epic announced late Wednesday.

While shotguns may already be the most dominant guns in Battle Royale, the newest addition to the class looks to make them a little more versatile. The heavy shotgun has a tighter spread, which should mean a much longer range than the shotguns that are currently in Battle Royale. It’s not exactly clear how long the heavy shotgun’s effective range is, but the trade-off for this additional power is that the gun will be a lot less forgiving up close. That means it won’t get the same lucky headshots that benefit the tactical and pump shotgun varieties.

As far as stats go, the new heavy shotgun will match up pretty closely with the tactical shotgun when both are epic rarity, meaning that the range is really going to be the only differentiating factor between the two guns.

This latest addition to Fortnite Battle Royale will go live at 8 a.m. ET today and won’t require an update to the game or any downtime for the servers.
