They say that love is a battlefield, but what about the type of desperate love that blooms on the battlefield in the middle of a war that can only be described as apocalyptic?
[Warning: The following contains minor spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War based on previews.]
Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olson) and Vision (Paul Bettany) will find out in the newest Avengers movie. Olson and Bettany told io9 that Scarlet Witch and Vision’s relationship will add a new stake to Avengers: Infinity War, beyond the impending doom accompanying Thanos’ descent onto Earth. Their relationship has been building for some time, as we saw in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, but Avengers: Infinity War will finally unite the two, giving them even more reason to fight.
“Vision’s been on this quest to understand what being human is and I think Scarlet Witch [has], in a large degree, helped him figure that out and what love is,” Bettany told io9.
Not only will Scarlet Witch help him discover what it’s like to be human, but we’ll also see a human-version of Vision in the film, as seen in recent trailers. If being chased down by Thanos and his evil henchmen, known as the Black Order, and trying to protect Wakanda from devastation aren’t perilous enough, now Vision will also have to worry about his best friend and supposed soulmate, too. Although, that seems like something both Bettany and Olson are excited to explore.
“It just feels like you have something really specific to work with all the time,” Olson said. “That feels nice. There’s an anchor point to everything, which is what you’re constantly looking for when you’re doing these movies. ... You have your partner, your life partner with you by your side, and that creates a different kind of stakes, as well.”
Avengers: Infinity War will be released on April 27.
