The network is calling this the official first trailer for the season, reiterating that the footage HBO aired during the Super Bowl was just an ARG-filled teaser. HBO has slowly released hints of what’s to come in the show’s second season through motion posters and Easter egg hunts found in clues on the show’s Twitter account, but this is the first time we’re really seeing the season in action.
There isn’t too much of a focus on Shogun World, which was referred to as Samurai World in the original 1973 film directed by Michael Crichton, and is one of the show’s big new theme parks this season. Shogun World was teased at the end of Westworld’s first season, but co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy only recently confirmed that it will play a part in the series’ upcoming narrative.
Don’t worry, though; Westworld will also remain populated with all of your favorite hosts and guests.
Westworld returns to HBO on April 22 at 9 p.m. ET. Season one is available for streaming on Hulu and Amazon.
