Nintendo Switch eShop update stars a classic puzzle game

Plus: a little somethin’ for JRPG fans

There aren’t any huge names in this week’s Nintendo Switch eShop update — but for genre fans, there are definitely at least two games to consider. A Game Boy Color classic is back again, nearly 20 years after its original 2001 release; meanwhile, a cult favorite JRPG franchise is also celebrating its 20th anniversary with a new game, one of the few JRPGs currently on Switch.

That returning game is Toki Tori, the chicken-starring puzzle platformer that’s been only slightly refreshed over the years, because a good puzzle game needs few changes. The little chicken uses different tools to problem-solve his way through more than 80 levels, each one full of eggs. If you’re a fan of eggs, hardcore puzzles or both, Toki Tori is one of those games that’s good to just have on you whenever you want to bust your brain for a bit.

Two Tribes calls the Switch version “the most detailed portable version of the game so far;” considering that the game has previously been available on iOS alongside the Game Boy Color version, it’s hard to argue with that claim. Check out how the Switch revamp looks below; it’s available March 30.

For those looking for a new role-playing game to check out, the Atelier franchise makes its debut on Nintendo Switch. Atelier Lydie & Suelle ~The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings~ has an absurd name, but Atelier fans have stuck around with these lighthearted, turn-based, magical crafting games for the past 20 years. Lydie & Suelle marks the 19th mainline entry in developer Gust’s biggest franchise; it’s also the final one in Atelier’s latest subseries, called Mysterious.

Your mileage may vary with the rest of the list. Check the full thing out below.
