Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler arriving on July 13 for Nintendo Switch

Developers also reveal the game’s special edition add-ins

Octopath Traveler, the latest role-playing game from Square Enix, will arrive on Nintendo Switch July 13, according to today’s Nintendo Direct presentation.

Square recently announced that some 45,500 players took part in the demo of the “2D-HD” game, which lead to sweeping changes based on their feedback, including a faster movement speed and changes to the overall look and texture of the game world.

Today Square also unveiled two new characters. Tressa, a merchant, has the ability to acquire new items from people in the game world. Alfyn, the apothecary, is able to inquire in order to gain more information in dialogue trees. It also detailed the games job system, which allows players to combine specialties to “enhance strategic options” in combat.

Also announced today was the game’s special edition, which will be available at launch. It will include a pop-up art book, a nod to the game’s unique graphical style, as well as a a map and a “sound selection CD” and a replica coin based on the in-game currency.
