Capcom is bringing Okami HD, the remaster of Clover Studio’s classic adventure game, to Nintendo Switch this summer, Nintendo announced during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation.
Okami HD for Switch appears to be the same remaster that Capcom released for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One last year. The Switch version will feature touchscreen controls when played in handheld mode and players can use Joy-Con motion controls when the system is in TV or tabletop mode.
In Okami, players take on the role of Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu, a wolf-like deity who sets off on an adventure to restore a world decimated by evil to its original glory. The game explores Japanese folklore and features a visual style based on sumi-e ink painting.
The original Okami was developed for PlayStation 2. It was later brought to Wii and PlayStation 3 (also under the name Okami HD), courtesy of developers Ready At Dawn and HexaDrive. Okami was the penultimate release for Clover Studio before it was dissolved by Capcom in 2007. Okami director Hideki Kamiya and producer Atushi Inaba later went on to work at PlatinumGames.
Okami HD is coming to Nintendo eShop this summer.
Update (May 16): The Nintendo Switch version of Okami HD will be released Aug. 9, Capcom announced today. You can see a clip of the port’s touchscreen controls in action in the tweet from the official Okami account below. The tweet also says that you can now pre-order the game on the Nintendo Switch eShop, but the product page doesn’t appear to be live yet, at least not on the eShop website.
