AMC is partnering with Twitch for a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds tournament to promote The Walking Dead’s season eight finale this weekend.
The tournament will host eight different Twitch streamers on two teams of four, which will go up against each other in PUBG’s Zombie Mode (obviously). One team will represent Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead’s spinoff series, and the other team will represent The Walking Dead. Sacriel, ChocoTaco, Anthony_Kongphan, iiJERiiCHOii, VernNotice, GoldGlove, JoshOG and Fairlight_Excalibur are the eight Twitch streamers set to participate.
The tournament, “Survival Sunday’s Battlegrounds,” will run for approximately three to four hours, leading up to Fear the Walking Dead’s season four premiere and The Walking Dead’s season finale.
The tournament will allow viewers to participate by playing members of a zombie horde, and use specific emotes designed around The Walking Dead Universe to participate in cheering on teams. AMC will use the tournament as a way to broadcast new trailers for both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, too. AMC did not suggest that new information about PUBG would be revealed during the stream.
Commentary will be provided by Dead_flip, a streamer known for his pinball content, and Scott “Coltrane” Cole, who is known for casting esports on ESPN.
“The overlap between the Twitch/PUBG gaming audience and The Walking Dead Universe is incredible,” Justin Manfredi, the senior vice president of marketing at AMC Networks, said. “The detailed and authentic integration of show elements into the gameplay and emotes make for both fun and engaging moments for fans of both properties. It’s a win-win.”
The tournament kicks off on Sunday, April 15 at 4 p.m. ET and is expected to run until 8 p.m. ET. The stream will sit in the top spot on Twitch’s homepage for the duration of the event, maybe giving PUBG a chance to reclaim its glory from Fortnite.
The Walking Dead’s season eight finale airs at 9 p.m. ET on April 15. Fear the Walking Dead premieres at 10 p.m. ET.
