Not long after releasing the game’s shotgun-only mode, Tequila Sunrise, PUBG Corp. announced a new event mode for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds called War. Unlike the last several event modes, War is going to look a lot more like Team Deathmatch-style gameplay than the standard battle royale mode that PUBG fans are used to.
PUBG’s new event mode is team deathmatch-style
It’s not exactly battle royale, but it’s still PUBG

War will pit three teams of 10 players against each other in a fight to the death. Unlike in normal PUBG, this mode allows everyone to respawn. Players will start games — and each life — by dropping from the familiar PUBG plane into a small safe zone circle that stays the same size for the entire game, also unlike the game’s traditional mode. There will still be loot scattered across the map, but players will start every life with a random rifle, a random pistol, one grenade, and a level one vest and helmet.
The first team to reach 200 points is the winner, but each match will also have a 15-minute timer, after which the team with the highest score will win. The points themselves can be earned in a few familiar ways: three for a kill and one for a down or revive. Meanwhile, they’ll lose five points for killing a member of their own team.
This new event mode is the closest PUBG has ever come to departing from its battle royale roots, but War seems like an obvious example of how PUBG Corp. intends to further develop the game. Other recent modes have focused more on the game’s shooting mechanics than its survival elements as well.
War started on April 12 at 10 p.m. ET and will run for 72 hours, ending on April 15 at 10:00 p.m. ET. The mode will be available in first- and third-person perspectives in most of PUBG’s major regions.
