Fortnite battles PUBG in a violent, hilarious live-action short

This is better than it has any right to be

Arguing over whether Fortnite is better than PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or vice versa, is a waste of time these days. While Fortnite’s battle royale mode was openly inspired by PUBG, the latest updates to PUBG that make it faster and less serious make it feel as if that inspiration goes in both directions.

Which is why the above video by Nukazooka is so much fun. PUBG and Fortnite may be fighting each other, but neither the editing nor the script seems to be taking sides. Both games end up looking pretty silly when real people act them out, but the short leans into that silliness without it feeling cynical or mean. This is a celebration of what each game does so well.

Also, watching someone conjure up a tower in the middle of combat works really well in this video, and highlights just how strange Fortnite is as a mishmash of ideas and how cool that combat looks when handled with care.

This short was able to capture the feel of each game before bringing them together for a climactic battle that remains playful. There’s a ton of blood, sure, but it’s tonally consistent. The fact that both are of these games are so violent yet lighthearted comes across in the short, and that couldn’t have been easy to pull off.

Plus, PUBG wins in the end, because it’s better.
