Deadpool 2’s so-called final trailer has everything fans could want: Confirmation of a few new X-Men characters, plenty of Cable and Deadpool cross chatter and, of course, a dig at Warner Bros. slate of DC Comics movie adaptations.
‘Final’ Deadpool 2 trailer can’t resist poking the DC Universe in the eye
And the MCU as well
“You’re no fuckin’ hero,” Josh Brolin’s Cable growls at our anti-hero, “You’re just a clown dressed up as a sex toy.”
“So dark!” Deadpool replies, “You’re sure you’re not from the DC Universe?”
Zing, indeed. But Wade doesn’t leave the estranged cousin of the X-Men movie continuity out of the fight, when he also jokingly referring to Cable as “Thanos” in the trailer — a reference to the fact that Brolin is also playing the main antagonist in Avengers: Infinity War, hitting theaters just a few weeks before Deadpool 2.
But when it’s not taking potshots and the bigger franchises it’s sharing the stage with, the trailer takes some time to confirm some fan speculation. As sleuthed out by some eagle-eyed fans, Terry Crews is playing Bedlam, and that guy in the background with the weird helmet on his face? That is, indeed, the mutant character of Shatterstar, paving the way for the future X-Force movie.
Deadpool 2 will be released on May 18.
