Resogun makers break from arcade mold with Stormdivers

Housemarque promises a ‘high flying and heavy hitting multiplayer experience’

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

Housemarque, which delivered Resogun for PlayStation 4 when the console launched in 2013, announced its newest title yesterday: Stormdivers.

Stormdivers will be the second game made in the Unreal Engine by Housemarque (the first being Matterfall, which launched last summer.)

The tease trailer doesn’t give a good sense of what Stormdivers’ gameplay involves — the blowing embers suggests some kind of wildland fire motif though.

Late last year, Housemarque said it was finished with its traditional arcade-style approach to video games, which had been seen in the Super Stardust series, Dead Nation and Resogun over the studio’s 20-year history. Housemarque said the change in genre was necessary because “our games just haven’t sold in significant numbers,” despite critical acclaim.

Housemarque said it’s been “secretly working on” Stormdivers for the past two years. No specific launch date was given.
