With Destiny 2: Warmind having launched last week and the game’s fall expansion on the horizon, it’s easy to feel like Warmind’s chapter is already coming to a close. But today Bungie dropped a new, detailed development roadmap on the next few months of Destiny 2.
Starting in two weeks, on May 29, Bungie will release three new features: Faction Rally improvements, exotic armor tuning and something called Crucible Labs. Bungie has been a bit quiet on the Faction Rally changes, although we’ll likely hear about that soon. The exotic armor sandbox update suggests something similar to the exotic weapons tuning pass we just saw in the v1.2.0 update alongside Warmind. Ideally, this could make some of the less interesting armor exotics more fun to use.
Crucible Labs is an entirely new term out of Bungie. In the roadmap, design lead Derek Carroll gave a short description of the new feature.
“Crucible Labs will give every player of Destiny 2 access to experimental PvP content,” said Carroll. “We’ll then have a chance to solicit your feedback to guide our final iterations. You’ll learn more about Labs before launch.”
It seems that Destiny 2 players will be given a chance to help shape the Crucible’s future once this new mode launches later this month.
In the near future, Destiny 2 will be implementing a new summer holiday event, Solstice of Heroes, where players will be able to “celebrate their accomplishments” and “earn sweet new rewards,” according to game director Christopher Barrett. Bounties will also be returning to Destiny 2, and both raid lairs will get prestige modes. More exotic changes, PC clan chat and a Year 1 triumph activity will also be added in July.
The Year 1 triumph activity sounds similar to Destiny’s Age of Triumph patch and the small quest booklet that came with it, giving players obscure ways to track their game progress before Destiny 2 was released.
Finally, in September, players will get access to some of the community’s most requested features, including weapon slot changes, weapon randomization, gear collections, records and new gameplay modes. Some of that may come in Destiny 2’s third expansion, which is expected to arrive this September.
While Bungie stated that we’ll learn more about September’s content in the coming months, it’s likely that we’ll see Destiny 2’s first major expansion revealed at Sony’s E3 press conference on Monday, June 11.
