Sense8 is getting one last hurrah, and Netflix’s new trailer for the two-hour finale promises it’s going to be an emotional affair.
The trailer, seen above, asks a question that’s agonized philosophers for centuries: What does it mean to be human? It’s a question at the center of Sense8’s foundation, and one the two-hour finale appears to focus in on.
In 2017, Sense8 fans rallied after the series, created by Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski, and J. Michael Straczynsk, was abruptly canceled. After people expressed their anger and frustration with the network cutting one of the few series at the time that fully celebrated and encompassed all kinds of diversity in its story, characters and cast, Netflix decided to give the series one final sendoff. This, partnered with the second season’s cliffhanger finale, led to fans pleading with Netflix to give them the closure they needed. It paid off. Lana Wachowski announced at the end of June that Netflix agreed to give their team one more special to wrap everything up.
“Improbably, unforeseeably, your love has brought Sense8 back to life,” Wachowski wrote. “(I could kiss every single one of you!). It is my great pleasure, as well as Netflix’s (believe me, they love this show as much as we do but the numbers have been challenging) to announce that there will be another two hour special released next year.”
Sense8’s finale will be available to stream on Netflix on June 8.
