What do you get when you combine Transformers director Michael Bay, Green Lantern actor Ryan Reynolds and the writers of the Deadpool films? A Netflix original movie.
Not much is known about the movie other than its title — Six Underground — and the fact that Reynolds is starring in it. A press release from Skydance Media says that it’s an action film “based on an original idea from writers and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.” Reese and Wernick were the writers of 2016’s Deadpool, and wrote the recently released sequel with Reynolds.
Six Underground, which we can only assume is referring to a coffin or some kind of box located 6 feet underground, marks the first Netflix project for Reynolds and Bay.
It’s a busy time for Reynolds, Reese and Wernick, who are coming off strong reviews for Deadpool 2. Most critics are applauding what Reese, Wernick, Reynolds and director David Leitch accomplished, though it’s not as critically acclaimed as the first Deadpool. The film also managed to start with $125.5 million domestically and another $176 million overseas. That’s not as impressive as Deadpool’s opening weekend, but it did dethrone Avengers: Infinity War from the top spot in the box office rankings.
Six Underground doesn’t have a release date yet, but is expected to be available to stream in 2019.
