Dark Souls: Remastered was scheduled for a May 25 release, but the game has launched a day early on Steam. If you’re interested in a rebuilt and improved version of the modern classic, you can jump right in today.
The game is not currently available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, so it seems as if the release date is holding for those two platforms. Dark Souls: Remastered is also coming to Nintendo Switch, sometime this summer.
The game is available for $39.99 on Steam, but existing owners of the previous Dark Souls release will be able to upgrade for half price.
The reviews of the remastered version of the game are already mixed, despite only being available for less than a day. The two main complaints seem to be that cheaters are already infesting the online play, and the updated visuals should have been released as free patches to the original release.
“I just don’t see why this could not have been delivered in a few simple patches,” one player wrote. “Most developers would have done just that. I’m going to go ahead and refund this now as I didn’t realize how horrible of a business practice I was supporting when I purchased the remaster.”
