We all have games in our Steam libraries that we bought and promptly forgot about. Perhaps it’s that free copy of Amnesia: The Dark Descent you impulsively grabbed because, hey, it was free. Maybe it’s Kentucky Route Zero, of which a Nintendo Switch port was announced just after you bought it in a Steam sale.
Valve is well aware of our bad habits, and its latest Steam store event is calling us all out. Dubbed Spring Cleaning, users will receive a special badge in exchange for dusting off their unplayed games. (That means actually playing them and earning trophies.) Valve says that you will not only unlock the exclusive badge for your profile, but also have the chance to level it up. And if you’re experiencing choice overload, Valve will even pick a random unplayed game in your library for you.
There’s one potential rub, however: Throughout the duration of the event, there will be several popular games playable for free. The full list is below, but should you try them and buy them and then let them languish in your library ... you may be back at square one.
The Spring Cleaning challenge runs until May 28. Here’s the list of games on trial throughout the period:
- Don’t Starve Together
- Dead by Daylight
- Cities: Skylines
- Tyranny
- Borderlands 2
- Castle Crashers
- Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
- Left 4 Dead 2
- Dirt 4
