Warmind data mining reveals the nature of Destiny 2’s second raid lair

Spoilers: We aren’t fighting who we thought

We now have a good idea of what will happen in Destiny 2: Warmind’s Spire of Stars raid lair this Friday, May 11, thanks to some data-mined audio.

[Warning: This story contains spoilers for Destiny 2: Warmind’s raid lair, Spire of Stars.]

Players have been speculating for some time that the Hive would be our main opponents, just as the Vex were in their highlighted expansion, Curse of Osiris. But by the sound of things, Guardians will actually be facing off against the final remnant of the Red Legion, concluding the story of Destiny 2’s campaign.

On the Destiny subreddit, user TheEcumene dropped a small file filled with audio clips from the new expansion. In one particular folder, Raid Lair, sit 56 lines of Emperor Calus dialogue. Here, we’re able to learn a few things about how the Leviathan story concludes.

It seems that Spire of Stars will begin with a Red Legion invasion of the Leviathan, Calus’ massive spaceship floating above Nessus. For those unclear of the distinction, Emperor Calus is actually the former emperor of the Cabal. The Cabal who follow him are the loyalists who stood by his side after he was removed from power and fled. It seems the Red Legion, a fierce army of Cabal warriors and the main villains of Destiny 2, are attempting to hunt Calus down once and for all.

We aren’t entirely sure who the end boss will be in the Spire of Stars. However, it does sound like players will be able to meet Calus himself in the flesh, rather than a robotic replica. All will be revealed when the best fireteams race to complete Spire of Stars on May 11.

Destiny 2: Warmind launches today on PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One.
