An ode to Sweet Business, Destiny 2’s best gun

Choosing a faction has never been easier

Destiny 2 Titan holding Sweet Business Bungie/Activision

Faction Rallies are back in Destiny 2, and features new rewards: faction-exclusive exotic weapon catalysts. Each faction is selling its own catalyst this season, and you have a choice on whom to support: Sweet Business for New Monarchy, Graviton Lance for Dead Orbit and Sunshot for Future War Cult.

Or rather, it would be a choice if Sweet Business wasn’t on that list.

Sunshot is great and so is Graviton Lance, but nothing compares to the glory that is Sweet Business. This is the only gun that could turn the return of the fan favorite auto rifle Suros Regime into a quiet, odorless fart. Who needs Suros Regime’s Spinning Up perk when you can mow down a group of Hive with a damn mini-gun?

There’s a reason why Bungie gave beta players a chance to play with Sweet Business before Destiny 2 launched. An in-game mini-gun that doesn’t completely suck was a selling point for the entire game.

Destiny 2 is full of long damage sequences that let you take advantage of auto-reloading abilities like Rally Barricade, Actium War Rig and Lunafaction Boots. Sweet Business is designed for these moments more than any other gun. Holding down the trigger on Sweet Business for as long as you can and trying to eke out that 450th bullet is one of the most satisfying things you can do in Destiny 2. It can send a whole bunch of lead toward a vaguely targeted area for a very long time. It’s the gun for when you have a whole lot of people to kill and you don’t feel like waiting.

Not enough people love Sweet Business, and it’s a shame. Sweet Business is too often forgotten about or described as a weapon that’s good but not great. Sweet Business has a paltry score of 3.8 on the Destiny Item Manager, and users of that otherwise useful app should be ashamed of themselves.

Sweet Business is useful in every situation, unlike other weapons offered in the latest Faction Rally.

Need raid damage? Sweet Business is just as good as Coldheart for sustained boss damage. It can handle mobs, elites and bosses on just about any Strike. You’ll almost never have to switch guns. Sweet Business is also enjoyable on its own when you’re just tooling around with your friends.

Sweet Business deserves better, and hopefully you’ll understand that when I’m running around with my exotic catalyst for Sweet Business, creating more orbs of light than your heart can handle. Or you could wise up before it’s too late and make the correct decision right the heck now.

And if you’re able to get your head straight in time and I hear the whir of Sweet Business spinning up next to me next week, I won’t be disappointed that it’s taken this long for you to learn I’m right. I’ll just be thankful that I could lead another down this path of righteousness.
