The first Lego Movie 2 trailer shows us a post-apocalyptic Lego world

Everything is NOT awesome

The first teaser for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, the highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s The Lego Movie, shows a new side of the Lego world. After the events of the catastrophic “Taco Tuesday” from the first movie, Bricksburg is left in a post-apocalyptic state, reminiscent of Mad Max and other sci-fi thrillers.

But infused with the bleak, desolated landscape is the usual Lego charm and humor. While everything might not be awesome, Emmet still believes that it is. Even an alien invasion won’t get him down!

The film is helmed by producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who worked on the other Lego movies. Stephanie Beatriz, Will Arturo and Tiffany Haddish join the cast alongside returning Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett and Allison Brie.

The heroes of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will face a new threat: Lego Duplo. The full synopsis can be read below:

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will be released on Feb. 8, 2019.
