Blumhouse productions has debuted the first trailer for its upcoming Halloween sequel.
The trailer helps shed some light on the plot points we already know. This movie appears to be a direct sequel to the original Halloween, and will follow the film’s heroine Laurie Strode and her family as she returns to Haddonfield four decades after Michael Myers’ original killing spree. Halloween (2018) will bring back at least two of the original film’s cast members: Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie, and Nick Castle, who played the original Michael Myers and never appeared in the franchise again.

Along with those original cast members, the film will also star Judy Greer as Karen Strode, Laurie’s daughter, and Andi Matichak as her granddaughter, Allyson. Halloween (2018) is directed by David Gordon Green and co-written by Green and frequent collaborator Danny McBride. It appears that this movie will ignore everything that happened in the seven Halloween sequels — and two remakes — that have been released since the original came out in 1978.
This will also be the first Halloween film released by Blumhouse Productions, a studio known for producing horror movies, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture last year with Jordan Peele’s Get Out.
Halloween will be released on Oct. 19.
