The latest entry in Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei’s flagship fighting game series, Dead or Alive, is coming next year. Dead or Alive 6 is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One sometime in early 2019, according to a reveal trailer.
Dead or Alive 6’s debut trailer reveals six returning playable characters: Ryu Hayabusa, Kasumi, Hayate, Helena, Jann Lee and Zack. According to a report from IGN, Dead or Alive 6 will introduce new characters to the series, and Team Ninja has opted to tone down the overly sexualized approach to the series’ female fighters, removing the games’ comical breast physics and giving characters like Helena and Kasumi less revealing clothing.
As the game’s debut trailer shows, DOA 6’s fighters will sustain visible wounds, with spurts of blood and sweat visible in intense matches. The sequel will also introduce new mechanics called Fatal Rush and Break Gauge, described as powerful attacks that use simplified commands, aimed at giving new players a way into the 22-year-old series.
More details on Dead or Alive 6 are promised on June 11.
The most recent entry in the series, Dead or Alive 5, was released in 2012. That game was later updated and re-released as Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate in 2013 and Dead or Alive 5 Last Round in 2015.
