Mech fighting game Override looks ridiculously fun

It’s War of the Monsters meets Virtual On

Override: Mech City Brawl, a new fighting game that looks like a blend of giant monster battlers like War of the Monsters and Virtual On, is coming to consoles and PC later this year. The game’s debut trailer shows a ton of promise; Override will let players take control of giant robots and duke it out across cityscapes in one-on-one and four-player brawls.

There’s also a story mode and four-player co-op ... as a single mech. As shown in the above trailer, one player controls the mech’s legs, while two others control the arms and the fourth player acts as the pilot.

The cast of mechs looks pretty varied. There’s an Optimus Prime-looking mech called Watchbot and a Mechagodzilla-like known as Metageckon. Other mechs get a bit more inventive. There’s Pescado, a fish-headed luchador who brings a massive metal folding chair to fights; Rocca, an Inca-inspired mech warrior; Contessa, piloted by a Romanian sorcerer (who appears to summon the grim reaper to battles); and Vintage, a mech made up of retro console and computer components. Developer The Balance Inc. promises mech customization with accessories and skins.

Override: Mech City Brawl is in development for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. It’s scheduled for release on Dec. 4. You can sign up for the game’s multiplayer beta at the Override website.
