Re-familiarize yourself with the original generation’s world

Pokémon: Let’s Go! is a beautiful, modern twist on Pokémon Yellow and the rest of the first-generation games. That means it takes us way back to the Kanto region, where the series began. We’ve visited Kanto so many times now that many of us can navigate it with our eyes closed. Now, The Pokémon Company is helping series newcomers get acclimated with the beloved area before the Nintendo Switch games launch this November with a mesmerizing, gorgeous illustration.

Alongside a bunch of other new screenshots and assets for the upcoming Let’s Go! games, the Pokémon publisher released the full Kanto map, seen below, which has a lot to pore over. Each town and city that players must travel to is subtly demarcated by their associated Pokémon. If you wanna go to Viridian City, look for its notorious bug Pokémon on the map; there’s your spot.

The first game I ever owned was Pokémon Red, back when I was 6 years old — so it’s kind of sweet that I can look at the map and immediately know the direction of a trainer’s journey. But if you haven’t embarked upon the classic Kanto region journey yet, here’s a tip: Start down in the southeast portion, where you’ll see Pikachu and Eevee. That’s where Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! will kick off, and from there, travel north to get a sense of where you’ll have to head next. Check out the map below.

Pokémon: Let’s Go! is out Nov. 16.
