Pokémon Go teases Gen 4 Pokémon

Sinnoh region starters could be on their way

Piplup stares up, with its beak open The Pokemon Company

Pokémon Go may add a new generation of Pokémon soon, based on a new piece of artwork posted to the mobile game’s official Twitter account.

The artwork was released to celebrate the two-year anniversary of Pokémon Go, and highlights many of the additions to the game over the past year: Alolan Pokémon, the ability to trade Pokémon and send gifts, Professor Willow and Mew, the mythical Pokémon players could battle as part of the field research game mechanic.

The artwork also includes Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup, the Sinnoh region starters that debuted in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Those Gen 4 Pokémon are not currently available to catch in Pokémon Go, but it sure looks like they’re coming soon. The mythical Pokémon Celebi is also in the anniversary artwork, and will be available to catch via field research soon.

Pokémon Go Fest takes place this weekend, July 14-15, in Chicago, and Polygon will be in attendance to cover the event. Expect to hear more soon about the next generation of Pokémon coming to Niantic’s mobile game.
