For those who want a real chance to fight some walkers and navigate the post-apocalyptic universe of the Walking Dead franchise, a virtual-reality The Walking Dead experience could be the closest thing to kicking walker butt.
The first official VR title of The Walking Dead franchise, announced in 2017, is set for a 2019 release date. Developed at Skydance Interactive (known for VR title Archangel: Hellfire) in partnership with Skybound Entertainment, the game will be called The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.
Players will be tossed right into the flooded remains of New Orleans and challenged to navigate the ruined city, while dealing with walkers and other survivors and making crucial decisions in the post-apocalyptic world. Depending on your choices and actions, you can play as a “saint” or a “sinner.”
The Walking Dead has expanded from a comic book series to multiple television shows, video game titles, webisodes, and companion publications. This is its first VR release, though another VR title from Overkill is also in the works.
Skydance Interactive and Skybound Entertainment will be bringing The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners to San Diego Comic Con and will discuss the first official teaser during their Twitch livestreams on Thursday, July 19 at 12 pm PT and Saturday, July 21 at 4 pm PT.
